How much does it cost to install a skylight?

Roof pitch, unit type, opening size, framing, flashing kit, interior shaft and drywall, electrical controls, roofing material, and whether the opening is new or existing determine the project price. How much attic ventilation do I need?
Ventilation is calculated from the attic and roof assembly, then balanced between intake near the eaves and exhaust high on the roof. More vents are not automatically better: blocked soffits, mixed exhaust types, short-circuiting airflow, bath fans dumping into the attic, or an air-leaky ceiling can defeat the system. A complete asphalt shingle roof installation includes tear-off where required, deck inspection, damaged sheathing repairs, eave and valley protection, underlayment, drip edge, flashings, ventilation details, shingles, cleanup, and closeout. New-construction roof installation and existing-home roof replacement share materials, but replacement adds demolition, concealed-condition review, and protection of an occupied property.
