Can damaged flooring be repaired instead of replaced?
Often, when damage is isolated and compatible replacement material is available. A repair may replace boards or tile, correct a transition, stabilize a localized subfloor, or address a small finish defect. Widespread water exposure, movement, delamination, extensive scratching, height problems, or discontinued material can make room or whole-floor replacement more practical.
What should be fixed before new flooring is installed?
Moisture sources, soft or uneven subfloor, loose tile, deflection, squeaks, damaged underlayment, incompatible old adhesive, and door or stair clearances should be resolved first. New flooring should not conceal an active leak or structural problem.
